Enjoy the flora of the main island: chestnut, walnut, sycamore, oak, weeping willows, poplar, mulberry, osier and olive trees, fields of thyme, crocus and sage, and, in between, paved paths connect them to the beautiful village of Messariá and the village of Faneroméni within a castle that is ten centuries old and perched at an elevation of 600 m. Don’t forget to pay a visit at the monasteries of Zoodóchos Piyí in Batsí and of Panayia Tomarhiani in Korthi.

. Top Things To Do
.Spend The Day On The Beach
The island of Andros has many beaches that are spread around the island. Personally I think that the beaches on this island were much prettier than on many of the other Cycladic islands. As you drive the few kilometers from the ferry port Gavrio to the seasideresort of Batsi this immediately becomes clear because around ever corner there is a new beautiful beach, and so you pass many before you arrive in Batsi. The water also is very clear and the beaches are good and clean compared to other islands in this islandgroup. You will not find large amounts of parasols and sunbeds. On Andros there are plenty of remote beaches which are a bit more difficult to get to, so there are plenty of opportunites for tourists that are looking for a naturist beach.

Batsi village and Batsi Beach, 7 kilometer from the port of Gavrio, have changed from a former tiny fishing village into a cosmopolitan tourist resort, which offers, besides the great beach off course, a variety in shops, restaurants, nightclubs and cozy bars. In Batsi there is also a bank and a post ofice. It's situated on the top of two hills in a beautiful bay that overlooks the Agean sea, and it lies protected from the wind. Batsi is built amphitheatrically, with whitewashed tiled roof houses with colourful windows and doors, and it has a picturesque little port with fishing boats.
. Visit The Capital Hόra
The capital of the island, Hóra (which means “main village”) is home to famous Greek captains and ship owners, and there is a remarkable combination of medieval, neoclassical and island style evident in its houses. Flights of stairs, a spacious square with trees, narrow streets, remarkable churches and museums, shops, cafes and restaurants play their part in the beauty of the place. To top that beauty off, there is a Frankish castle on an islet connected to the main island with an arched stone bridge of the 13th century.

Andros Hόra, about an hour drive from the ferry port of Gavrio on the east side of the island.
In Hόra you will also find all other amenities like supermarkets, banks, a post office and a police station. It has some long and wide streets, squares with terraces and beautiful churches (the main one was being restored when we were there in 2006). All the shops and the tavernas tell you that life is good here and that people have money. It's a rich city and the people are dressed accordingly, including the jewelry. At the end of the village at the bottom of some stairs you find one of the beautiful beaches of Andros Chora. At twenty minutes further walking distance south of the capital you can find another beach which is called Lidi Beach.

. Visit The Ancient Town of Paleopolis on Andros
Paleópolis lies at 16 km west of Hóra, and used to be the ancient capital town of Ándros, having prospered from the classical to the late roman times. The prehistoric settlement of Pláka, the settlement of Zagora dating to the Geometric period, and the fortified settlement of the Neolithic times (4,500-3,300 BC) with rock paintings of animals, ships and linear designs have all been unearthed in the wider area.
